If you are worried about using ScoreBridge with Bridgemates,
here is an extract from an Australian User's email to a proepctive user
Answers to your questions:
1. Manual scoring is a thing of the past.
All scoring is automatically done by Scorebridge from the scores entered via the Bridgemates.
2. A click of the button "Prepare webpage" automatically sends final results to your website.
If you have an ISP (Internet Service Provider) all you have to do then is FTP (File Transfer) the page via an FTP program (a great one is AceFTP) to your ISP server. (AceFTP3 Pro is available through http://www.visicommedia.com/)
You can see what I have done on my site by clicking on
this link (this is the match where we played against 95 other clubs mostly from UK a couple of weeks ago):
Click on any name and you can see what each hand was for the players and the scoresheets.
I think I have found the best format for results (but I am biased).
The layout with XXXX is OK but not as friendly.
3. Your players database is built AUTOMATICALLY from the ABF website!
Any player who is a member of your club will be automatically added to the database.
This is done over the internet by ScoreBridge
(it has nothing to do with BridgeMate, which only records scores).
You can then add new players (those who have no ABF number) manually.
This is DEAD EASY with ScoreBridge!
The Scorebridge program even allows you to automatically send out emails to those players who want the results emailed to them after the scores are calculated by ScoreBridge.
I tend not to do this because I want the players to visit my site instead, but at least the opportunity is there
4. I use one PC at the club and then I simply bring it home, connect to the internet and the results are AUTOMATICALLY transferred to my office PC via the internet using "FolderShare" which is a FREE facility supplied by Microsoft (www.foldershare.com) I don't have top worry about copying files from one PC to another.
I then produce my web results by clicking a button within ScoreBridge and"Voila!"...all the results are on my website (after I FTP them to my ISP).
5. Once a month I click another button within ScoreBridge and (after answering a few simple questions such as "Start of Period?" and "End of Period?" Scorebridge prepares an email for me and adds the necessary files to be sent to the MasterPoint Centre.
The only additional info you need to add to the email is the "Authentication number" for any Red Point events which you may have held during the period. I find sending the points MONTHLY the best (and the MPC agrees with me!).
6. Batteries are minimal and are supplied with the Bridgemates. It is a good idea to get a supply of 1.5v AAA batteries (each Bridgemate takes 4 AAA batteries and the Bridgemate server takes 4 AA batteries.
The current batteries (supplied with Bridgemates) are still going fine. You set up the Bridgemates to automatically
"Power Off" when idle for a certain period (I set mine at 20 seconds). They power back on as soon as a button is pressed.
The Bridgemate server should only have its 4 AA batteries in place when it also has the power attachment connected to the mains.
This saves the batteries being used.
They are only there in case of power failure so that you do not lose the scores which are "in transit" to the scoring program from the Bridgemates.
If the server fails, the Bridgemates retain all scores for the current session anyway and can individually be connected directly to the computer to have their scores transferred directly to the Bridgemate Control program
This then sends them on to the Scorer ("ScoreBridge").
This has never occurred in the six months I have used Bridgemates.
You COULD use rechargeable batteries, but that would be expensive and involve lots of "recharge" activity when batteries do eventually fail.
It would be better to stay with the normal Duracell Heavy duty AAA batteries and have a spare supply of (say) 4 batteries per Bridgemate that you own.
Best not to mix batteries (gets confusing) so when one Bridgemate runs out of power simply replace all 4 batteries and throw the old ones out.
I would think that a set of four batteries would last AGES since they are only on for about 2 minutes (on and off) per board per round per night (say 45 minutes on average).
7. I would suggest you go the "whole hog" and get both ScoreBridge and Bridgemates. Please be aware though that there is an "Add-On" cost of A$220 for Scorebridge to work with Bridgemates .
XXXX does not have that add-on cost, but it worked out just as expensive as getting ScoreBridge.
My own opinion is ScoreBridge is a better product, but it is entirely up to you.
ScoreBridge is also currently working with the new CARDS scoring system being tested by Paul Marston (as is XXXX).
I hope these comments are of benefit and thanks for your kind words about my website.
I am continually amazed at the number of visitors there
Please note that Teams and Individuals are not available at the moment in "Magic Contest" (or so the "blurb" on their current website says)
ScoreBridge allows for both Teams Individual comps (as does Bridgemate) .
Also, I still maintain that the layout of results for Web display is STILL ScoreBridge by a mile over both ASE8 and "Magic Contest".
Yes, Scorebridge actually has a movement composer so you can create your own movements, but it has many movements of its own (standard).
I actually base all my movements on the excellent book "Bridge Director's Companion" by Larry Harris.
You can send an email Stephen Bligh about purchasing ScoreBridge with the BridgeMate Add-On.
The support for ScoreBridge is excellent .
E.g. you have the option every time you run ScoreBridge for it to go on line and automatically update to the latest version
